US East Coast Weather Delays, NY/NJ Port Delayed Opening, UK Portbury dock closure and Ningbo Port Operations

The National Weather Service is forecasting that a winter storm will bring heavy snow accumulation and icy conditions from the Mid-South into the Northeast today through Friday.

The Port of New York / New Jersey has issued a winter weather warning and is planning a delayed gate opening tomorrow at 8AM local time January 7, 2022 due to expected snow accumulation.

Prepare for delays / disruptions both in affected areas as well as in transportation networks (ports / rail / roads).

If you are not already doing so, be sure to review cargo protection requirements for both domestic moves (temperature controlled trucks) and international shipments.

UK – Portbury Dock Closure
A major failure with a tidal lock gates has closed vessel traffic at Portbury dock.  Smaller feeder vessels will divert to Avonmouth, but larger MSC container vessels will not be able to make port calls until January 21, 2022 at the earliest and will reroute to Liverpool.  This will put pressure on UK landside operations and transport infrastructure for Liverpool and surrounding ports.

China – Ningbo Port Operations
Temporary transportation control measures have been put into place affecting the BEILUN district.  This will affect container freight stations in the region, some access to Ningbo terminals and local road transportation / trucking availability in the closed off zones.
