Seattle Port terminals implement Temporary Storage Charge, LA/LB Postpones Excess Dwell Fees

Seattle’s SSA Terminals has moved forward with a Temporary Storage Charge at Terminals 5, 18, and 30.  The fee is levied on import containers that have exceeded 5 calendar days at the terminal as of December 1st, 2021.

The fee structure after 5 days “free time” is as follows:
USD 50 per day for days 1-5 after free time expires
USD 75 per day for days 6-10 after free time expires
USD 100 per day for days 11-15 after free time expires
USD 150 per day for day 16+ after free time expires

SSA’s announcement states that the importer of record in the shipping documents will be responsible for the charges.

SSA’s excess dwell fee follows similar initiatives announced at other Seattle terminals Husky Terminal and Washington United Terminals as well as terminals at Los Angeles and Long Beach.

However Los Angeles and Long Beach have cited improvement in container velocity and have postponed their excess container dwell fees multiple times and have announced the fee would be postponed again until December 13, 2021.
