Port of Montreal Strike Update
Operations are disrupted at the Port of Montreal after longshoremen called for a full strike starting at 7AM local time April 26, 2021 with no announced end date. The union had already ceased overtime work on weekdays and weekend shifts.
The Canadian government is preparing to step in with legislation that could end the work stoppage, but little information is known at this stage.
Ocean carriers have not announced contingency plans for cargo in transit. Cargo could be diverted to Halifax, St. John or could be held back at trans-shipment ports or origins.
We will continue to monitor and update on new developments relating to the port operations. Please contact your Hillebrand representative to discuss routing any pending or upcoming shipments in this area.
