Pass Closed: Argentina Cross-Andes Winter Season Shipping Alert

For any shipments from Argentina routed through Chilean ports (Valparaiso or San Antonio) be advised winter delays are to be expected.

The Paso Cristo Redentor (pass en route from Mendoza to Chile) is currently closed and snow is forecasted through Friday.

The international road connecting Mendoza to Chile passes through the Cordillera de los Andes (3,000 meters above sea level) and transit is frequently interrupted due to snow and ice accumulation on the pass.

Daily traffic is around 600-700 trucks, so even with reduced operations of a few hours, not all will be able transit the pass.  During the winter the road is operational only between 9AM-9PM each day when conditions permit.

It is important to anticipate additional lead times for re-stocking and to consider cargo care protection with insulation, operating reefer, or routing freight via Buenos Aires port.
