Ocean Carriers Rapidly Increasing Rates as Disruption Continues

In response to ocean freight trade dynamics (demand swings, operational and fuel costs, port congestion and dwell times), shipping lines are releasing a new round of additional surcharges, on top of existing congestion and equipment surcharges.

With no relief in sight, these additional surcharges will come into effect March 10th, 2021. Current emergency surcharges are expected to double. Equipment and vessel space availability is at critical levels which requires a minimum of 4 to 6 week lead time for bookings.

It is anticipated that ocean freight base rates will increase further on April 1st, 2021.

NASA continues to challenge and negotiate rate adjustments will minimizing the impact on vessel capacity for new bookings and equipment.
