European Union suspends tariffs on American Whiskeys
The United States and the European Union released statements yesterday modifying steel and aluminum industry measures and suspending tariffs on American whiskeys going to EU markets.
The Toasts Not Tariffs Coalition issued a statement commending the Biden administration for restoring the important trading partnership with the EU.
“The lifting of the tariff on American Whiskeys marks the final chapter in the tit-for-tat retaliatory tariffs on EU and US distilled spirits and wines products that have been ensnarled in two trade disputes totally unrelated to the beverage alcohol sector.”
Note the United Kingdom has a separate trade agreement which still imposes a 25% retaliatory tariff on American whiskeys. The US Distilled Spirits Council and Toasts Not Tariffs Coalition will continue to push for a suspension of tariffs for the whiskey trade to the United Kingdom.
