Alert – South Africa Suspends Alcohol Production, Sales, Exports; Wine Industry to Counter Measures March 26, 2020​

The government of South Africa has taken an extreme containment measure in response to COVID-19 and has suspended the production, sale and export of all alcohol in the country.  These restrictions will go into effect midnight today local time for three weeks, until April 16, 2020.  Production of alcohol for industrial use and for hand sanitizer is still permitted.  Wine industry organization VinPro is trying to counter the measures to have the government permit the completion of harvest which still has two more weeks and to allow wine exports.
