Alert: Port of Genoa Congestion and Off-site Terminal Storage for Export Containers
The Port of Genoa is experiencing severe congestion at all of its main export marine terminals (Genova Port Terminal, VTE, SECH, Bettolo). Vessel operation windows and receiving capacity at terminals for loaded export containers is extremely restricted.
In order to maintain weekly services, the export receiving windows per vessel are constantly changing with little or no prior notice. This situation leads to constant changes in supplier pickup dates and truck cancellation fees for rescheduling load collection.
When it is necessary to meet cargo scheduling and truck appointments for supplier pickup, our shipping partner Hillebrand has made arrangements with a third party terminal to pre-stage export full containers waiting for vessel receiving windows at the loading terminal. This will facilitate in maintaining original bookings on the scheduled vessel.
Additional charges for pre-staging operations when necessary will be communicated by sales team. This logistics initiative will start with pickups next week and will continue until operations at Genoa port terminals can return to a sustainable level.
