Re: Regulations concerning imports to Australia
Dear NASA Member:
Please be advised that effective 1st July 2003 all FCL and LCL shipments
must comply with the requirements of The Australian Quarantine and Inspection
service.
All shipments FCL and LCL must be accompanied by a Packing declaration.
Failure to provide this packing declaration will incur inspection and or
fumigation by Australia Quarantine with all costs invoiced to the supplier/packing
depot.
This packing declaration only applies to the outside packing material and
not the contents of the goods inside.
If the outside packing contains wood which has been fumigated then we shall
require a copy of the fumigation certificate which if OK will not require
inspection of the goods.
If there is wood and no fumigation certificate the goods will have to be
inspected by us and a quarantine officer who will then direct the shipment
for fumigation.
Due to only having three free days at either wharf / Terminal and LCL depot
it is not always possible to avoid paying storage as inspections and fumigation
can take over 3 days. These costs will also be liable to the supplier/packing
depot that did not supply correct information.
Should you require any other information in regards to the above matter,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
The North American Shippers Association
