Re:

Update on Fos sur Mer ongoing strike

France: Update on ongoing Fos sur Mer strike action

The strike action at Fos sur Mer port that began on July 5th is still in effect: dockworkers' unions at the port continue to strike 3 hours of each 24 hour work period. There are no planned negotiations for the upcoming week. As steamship lines adjust or cancel their vessel calls at the port some of the terminal congestion has eased but shippers can still expect delays, congestion surcharges, and demurrage charges.

Demurrage charges:

Contractual free time for containers at the port varies by carrier but ranges from 7 to 15 days for dry containers, and 2 to 6 days for reefer. Free time is measured in calendar days; from the date the container is accepted at the terminal to the last day which is the day it sails. Demurrage fees may range from EUR 15 to EUR 125 depending on equipment type and duration at the pier.

Congestion Charges:

Below is an updated list of the congestion charges and effective dates on the USA trade by carrier:

  • Evergreen: EUR 45 per TEU effective August 1, 2010

  • Correction: Maersk: USD 150 per TEU effective September 5, 2010 for USA trade

  • NYK Lines: USD 100 per TEU effective August 6, 2010

  • CMA-CGM: USD 75 per TEU effective August 20, 2010

  • Correction: ZIM Lines: EUR 45 per TEU effective August 26, 2010

  • USAC: USD 75 per TEU effective August 28, 2010
