Re:

Seasonal Border Crossing Interruptions from Argentina

For shipments originating in Argentina and routed via Chilean ports (San Antonio or Valparaiso), please be aware that winter weather conditions can result in interrupted service and delays.

Seasonal delays typical May through September:

The route between Mendoza and Chile passes through the Cordillera de los Andes mountain range (3000m above sea level) and local authorities close the pass when there is snow and ice accumulation.  Even if delays are only a few hours, the average daily traffic of 600-700 trucks still means congestion and interrupted service schedules.

Winter weather delays typically start by May and can last through the end of September.  Our offices receive daily reports by local authorities in both Chile and Argentina and we will post announcements when the pass is closed for an extended amount of time.

Plan ahead for inventory:

We advise importers to plan stock levels anticipating potential schedule delays or to look at the alternative to ship via Buenos Aires port.

If you have any questions, please contact your local sales representative for how to best coordinate your Argentina shipments this season.
