LOS ANGLES / LONG BEACH ASSESSED FEE - 11/1/04 |
Dear NASA Member:
It was announced this week that beginning on November 1, 2004 all cargo moving through the ports of LA and Long Beach will be assessed a fee of $20/teu. In conjunction with the fee, the terminal operators will begin a program of extended gate hours.
The purpose of the program is simple; reduce overall congestion, pollution and driver wait time. The $20/teu will be refunded to anyone that picks up their cargo during off peak hours or ships to an inland destination via the Alameda Corridor. The fees and subsequent refunds will be managed by a newly created marine terminal operators group called PierPass Inc.
The fee will apply to both imports and exports and will be assessed against the cargo interests. If you currently have cargo through these ports that is moved over the road we encourage you to work with your drayman in order to mitigate the charge as much as possible. As more information is made available we will be sure to keep you all informed.
Regards,
Judy Mannix
