Re:

Vehicle And Cargo Inspection System, US Customs And Boarder Protection

Dear NASA Member:

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CPB) have instituted a Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System. The system allows the CPB to scan containers using gamma ray imaging systems that produce a radiographic image of its contents. Maersk Sealand has announced that, as of October 1st, they will begin assessing a VACIS Administration Fee of $25.00 USD per container to cover the cost involved with complying with this regulation.

There is a high likelihood that other steamship lines will follow suit with this fee. If you require further information on the VACIS you can visit The U.S. Customs and Border Protection's website at, http://www.customs.treas.gov

For any other assistance relating to this charge please feel free to contact our office.

Best regards,
The North American Shippers Association
