INCREASE IN RATES AND BUNKER CHARGES

The Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement carriers have decided to increase westbound and eastbound rates and bunker charges effective April 1. This will mark the second increase of this year.

The increase on westbound tariff rates and rates on conference-wide service contracts will be $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-45 foot containers. The carrier group said that it is necessary, "to restore rates to a viable level."

The Eastbound increase will be $120 per 20 foot container and $150 per 40-45 foot containers. Contracts between shippers and TACA carriers will be negotiated when the individual contracts expire. Any existing contracts will not be effected by the conference rate increases.

Also increasing April 1 will be TACA's bunker charge. The increase will be $31 from $28 per 20-Foot container and to $62 from $56 per 40-45 foot box for service to and from U.S. Atlantic and Gulf ports. Shipments to and from the Pacific Coast will increase to $47 from $42 per 20-foot box and to $93 from $ 84 per 40-45 foot containers.
