HAPAG-LLOYD
EXPANDS WITH ORDER OF FOUR 7,200-TEU CONTAINERSHIPS
The new containerships oredered by Hapag-Lloyd will be among the largest
vessels deployed in global container shipping. The four 7,200-TEU containerships
will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, a south Korean shipbuilder. The
new ships will have the capacity to carry 17 containers across, instead
of 13, and will be stacked 15 high, including 6 on deck.
The first ship will be delivered in the Fall of 2001 while the other three
will arrive in the early part of 2003.
