FUEL
SURCHARGE ADDED ON INLAND TRANSPORT
A 10 percent fuel surcharge on inland transport rates in the United States
will be instated on March 20 by the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement
carriers. The TACA surcharge is a reaction to the ongoing escalation in
U.S. inland transport fuel prices. Typically only a bunker surcharge is
processed on the ocean portion of freight rates, but TACA said it will monitor
fuel prices on a quarterly basis and make the appropriate adjustments. The
TACA is believed to be the first conference to have a fuel surcharge on
inland moves.
