Re: Container Allocations

Dear NASA Member:

As many of you have unfortunately experienced recently, space has become extremely tight this year, particularly on the North Atlantic. Ocean Carriers have undertaken a major space rationalization exercise over the past 12 months and have dramatically reduced capacity.

The reduced capacity combined with stronger than anticipated westbound volumes has created a very difficult situation. Cargo is often being rolled and bookings are now being made as far as 3-4 weeks in advance in order to secure space. This situation looks like it will continue through much of this year.

All of this happens at a time when the service contracts are being renegotiated, which means the lines are looking for substantial increases this year. TACA has announced increases of $400/20’ and $500/40’.

Through JF Hillebrand, NASA will continue to negotiate the best combination of space and rates for its members. Please do not hesitate to contact your customer service representative for any further information regarding your shipments.
